Hypnosis is a natural state that we all experience daily without thinking about it. It can be seen as a focused state of attention. For example, think about when you last read a book and got caught up in the story so that you experienced it as you where almost there. This is a focused state of attention.
Another example could be when you walked or drove home from work while you were so caught up of your thoughts, so that you became surprised when you were suddenly there. Maybe you thought about where the time went and how you got home.
